Born and raised in Brisbane, Richard is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who is dual qualified in both Medicine and Dentistry. He works privately in Brisbane with Intraface oral and maxillofacial surgeons, and publicly as a consultant surgeon at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. Throughout his private work Richard services both Brisbane’s north side with treatment options at Bowen Hills in his private rooms, Brisbane Private Hospital, Chermside Day Hospital & Northlakes Private Hospital. Richard also travels to the Sunshine Coast and Hervey Bay to offer his services to the wider Qld Region.
Richard began academic life as a research scientist at the Orthopaedic Research Laboratories in Sydney where he earned a PhD in bone biology and biomechanics through the Division of Surgery at UNSW. During this time, he also lectured in anatomy at the School of Medicine and was an active member of the Australian Ski Patrol in Thredbo.
His PhD in Bone biology inspired interest in surgery and he then completed Dentistry at Sydney University followed by Medicine at University of Queensland. After his medical residency at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, he worked as a registrar in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Gold Coast Hospital. He then entered advanced surgical training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery being posted to Royal Brisbane and Women’s, Princess Alexandra, Gold Coast and Logan Hospitals. He has a special interest in facial trauma and skin lesions but practices the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Richard and his wife Elisha, spend much of their spare time looking after their son and twin daughters. When not being a Dad, he can be found searching for snow or camping on Moreton Island.
